Akot Arec, Executive Director of JumpStart Sudan, and Dale
Edwards spent two and a half weeks going to Akon to distribute
medicine, blankets, school uniforms, books and some clothing
purchased from donations totaling over $17,000 by Kansas City
area churches and concerned residents. They gave the medicine to
the doctor who shared it with other areas within the county
which were also without medicine. Blankets were distributed to
five different areas in the county.
Akot and Dale were able to provide 400 uniforms for the boys and
200 for the girls in the Akon school of 1,540. They were
determined to return someday soon with more uniforms for the
children as, for many of the children, the uniforms were their
only decent clothing. If you look at photos of the boys and
girls in uniform, you will often see that the girls’ uniforms,
especially, are too large for them. But this allows them to wear
those uniforms for several years.
They also distributed Bibles and showed a Jesus film to a group
of three to four hundred people from the area.
