  2008:  Assessing the clinic

JumpStart Sudan sent Chris Garang, JSS Arizona Representative and nursing student, back to Akon in January 2008 to work in the clinic for two months.  Chris raised funds for JSS in Tucson, AZ and was able to take medicine and small coolers to store vaccines.

JSS President Debra Ross visited Akon and the clinic in March to examine the final structure, assess the needs of the health care workers and determine how JSS can help the clinic grow in its capacity to aid the community.

The Ministry of Health of Southern Sudan expressed an interest in expanding the clinic from a Primary Health Care Unit to an 18-bed hospital with help from JumpStart Sudan.  JSS is exploring the feasibility of this proposal while focusing on finding health care professionals to work in the clinic, finishing the plumbing and electrical components of the clinic, and continuing to support the clinic with shipments of medicine, medical supplies and equipment.

A container filled with exam tables, office furniture, medicine and supplies, etc. arrived at the clinic in October.
