Students Organize Walk-A-Thon
to benefit Clinic

After hearing Chris and another Lost Boy of Sudan speak, students at Pueblo High School in Tucson organized a walk-a-thon March 24, 2007 to raise money to be used to purchase medical
supplies for the clinic.

When Chris Garang was only seven years old, his family's home was attacked and set on fire by Arab Muslims.  Chris ran for his life and has not seen or heard from his family ever since.  In 2001, he arrived in Tucson, Arizona, another Lost Boy of Sudan.  There he became a U.S. citizen and has been studying to become a nurse.  He also ended up being “adopted” by Carol Tierney and her family who are supporting Chris’ desire to journey  to Sudan to search for his family and to offer his nursing services there to help his people.  Read My Life's Story by Chris.

In October 2006, Chris traveled to Olathe, Kansas to tell his life story at a JumpStart Sudan fundraiser for the construction of the clinic in Akon, Sudan.  After he met with the JSS board, they decided
that Chris would

become the JSS Arizona Representative and that JumpStart Sudan would provide him with an umbrella for collecting donations which he will use to purchase anti-malarial medicine to take to the clinic in Akon.

As of February 2007, through various speaking engagements and with help from his American family, Chris has raised over $11,000 to purchase medicine and, through a church in Tucson, Chris raised another $6,000 to buy mosquito nets.  He plans to go to Sudan in May 2007.  JumpStart Sudan is proud of you, Chris!
