Jane
A. Ashcraft joined the board of JumpStart Sudan after meeting
Akot at a City of Olathe Diversity Forum and hearing about the
plight of the southern Sudanese.
After earning a bachelor's degree from the University of
Southern Indiana, Jane worked for two nonprofit organizations in
Illinois before becoming a full-time parent and volunteer
serving on the PTO board and teaching Visionmakers. She
home-schooled her son and daughter for their 6th and 7th
grades.
Her more recent education includes an emphasis in desktop
publishing and web design which she applies in her volunteer
work. Jane was a member of the Olathe Sister Cities Association
from 2003 to 2005, editing their newsletter. She is currently a
Charter Member and Second Vice President of the Olathe Evening
Optimist Club for which she is also Newsletter Editor. Because
of the club's interest in mentoring English Language Learners in
the Olathe Public School District, she trained to become a
YouthFriend volunteer and was paired—by chance—with a student from Sudan
for the 2005/2006 school year.
