  The Founders of JumpStart Sudan in 2002
 




 

 






Akot Lual Arec, Executive Director of JumpStart Sudan, decided to create this nonprofit organization in 2002.  Read Akot's story:  how he escaped from Sudan as a young boy, founded JumpStart Sudan and returned to Sudan to work for his people.

 

 




The Rev. Dr. Alison L. Barfoot was the Co-Rector of Christ Church in Overland Park when she became the founding President of the Board of Directors for JumpStart Sudan.  Alison was actively involved in cross-cultural ministry since 1994, and worked with southern Sudanese in Kansas City, Uganda, and Sudan, since 1999.  Alison also served on the Board of Directors for SOMA/USA (Sharing of Ministries Abroad) and on the Board of Trustees for Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, Ambridge, PA.  In 2003 she was made a Canon of Nebbi Diocese, Uganda and left the JumpStart Sudan board at that time.










John Ross was the founding Secretary for JumpStart Sudan. 















Dennis Albers
was a founding board member of JumpStart Sudan.  

 

 

 

 


 

Terry Robins was a teacher in the DeSoto School District who became interested in JumpStart Sudan after meeting Akot Arec.  Terry was actively involved as a founding board member and helped fundraise for one of the JumpStart Sudan mission trips. 

 

 

 




Anthony F. Shop majored in international relations at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO where he researched issues facing southern Sudanese refugees.  Anthony served as a founding board member of JumpStart Sudan.
