Left: A woman who has been
carried in by family on a makeshift pallet waits to be seen
at the Samuel Brownback Clinic in Akon, Sudan. The
health workers' ability to treat patients depends on the
available supply of antibiotics, anti-malarial medications,
etc.
Bottom right: Chris Garang, JSS Arizona Representative and nursing
student, takes a break from treating patients to pose with John Akot,
healthcare worker, and Debra Ross, JSS President, March 2008. |

What we do:
Since Akot Arec founded the organization in 2002, JumpStart Sudan has
provided humanitarian aid to the region around Akon, Sudan which is
home to approximately 115,000 people.
Through four relief missions from 2002 to 2005, JumpStart Sudan
representatives have hand-delivered blankets, school uniforms and
supplies, mosquito nets and Bibles to the neediest recipients.
Medicine and medical supplies were given to the one doctor who
served the community at that time.
In 2006, JumpStart Sudan began raising funds to help the people of
Akon build a small clinic. Construction began in January 2007,
and the first patients were being treated by late summer even though
it still has no electricity or plumbing. |
