Where we work:
The community of Akon, Sudan lies in the
Bahr El Ghazal region of Southern Sudan and is comprised of about
115,000 people. Akon lies approximately 40 miles from the
Darfur border and the Abyei region, hotly contested for its fertile
grazing lands and oil reserves.
As a young boy, JumpStart Sudan's Executive
Director, Akot Arec left Akon with two of his uncles when his mother
begged them to take Akot to safety in neighboring Ethiopia. He
vowed to come back to help his people someday. |
